Delhi and Punjab clinched the 30th Senior National Baseball Championship for men and women, respectively, on the last day of the five-day event here on Sunday.
Karnataka, despite the best efforts put in by the players, lost to the Delhi in the men’s category (11-8). In the women’s category, Maharashtra turned to be a weak rival for Punjab, who retained their title for the second consecutive time (9-1). Chandigarh and Punjab were declared as joint winners for the third place in the men’s category, while Haryana managed to secure the second runner-up by defeating Goa with (8-1).
The championship was organised by the Baseball Association of Karnataka under the auspices of Amateur Baseball Federation of India, which was recognised by the Union Ministry o Youth and Affairs and Indian Olympic Association affiliated to the International Baseball Federation of Asia for the first time Belagavi and second time Karnataka after a long gap of 30 years.
The prize distribution and closing ceremony was held in the presence of BAK president and Karnataka government’s Chief Whip Ashok M. Pattan, Regional Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner N. Jayaram, Superintendent of Police B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda, BAK Vice-Chairman and officials of the Federation were present.
