China: Pro baseball league opens 2015 season

BEIJING – The six-team Chinese Baseball League (CBL), the country’s professional baseball league, opened its 12th season on Saturday, 6 June.

The official opening ceremonies were held at Beijing Fengtai Baseball Field and attended by government and sports officials, as well as representatives from the embassies of Japan and Taiwan.

The inaugural 2015 game was won the by 5-time CBL champions, Beijing Tigers, who defeated the Sichuan Dragons, 8-2.

The CBL is overseen by China’s national baseball governing body and WBSC Member, theChinese Baseball Association

The CBL was established in 2002, suspended operations in 2013, and resumed in 2014 ahead of the 2014 Asian Games, where the No. 21 Chinese National Team advanced to the bronze medal game.

CBA is in the second of a six-year sponsorship agreement with Rawlings. The US-based sporting goods company is the Official Apparel and Equipment Sponsor for the national governing body and the Men’s and youth National Teams.
