Baek-ho Kang, the WBSC U-18 All-World Team 2017 selection and first overall pick of the 2017 Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) draft, blasted a home run in his first at-bat in the Korean big leagues.
The KT Wiz rookie’s home run on KBO’s Opening Day at a sold-out Gwangju-Kia Champions Field was also the first recorded home run of the 2018 KBO season, according to Yonhap News.
Kang earned a silver medal with the Korean National Team at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup 2017 in Thunder Bay, Canada, where he showcased both his hitting and pitching skills.
KBO, a WBSC Member, saw the second highest opening day attendance (96,555) in the league’s history Saturday, with four games sold out and the fifth at Gochuk Dome selling 15,055 of 17,000 tickets.
