The Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB) announced the opening of a Women's Baseball Academy in Rawalpindi, a 3.3 million people metropolis in the Province of Punjab, just 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) from Islamabad.
The academy was named after Khawar Shah, the founder of the Pakistan Baseball Federation. Shafqatullah Niazi has been appointed as the head coach. The federation will run it in collaboration with the Youth Education and Sports Welfare Society (YES).
The inauguration will be scheduled as soon as schools and universities reopen in the country. It will feature a game between the Pakistan Green and the Pakistan White teams.
PFB President Syed Fakhar Ali Shah said that the Academy "marks one more step towards the development of Women's Baseball" in the country.
Shaukat Javed, the general manager of the federation, said he will work to guarantee "all possible support to the Academy".
Miss Shazia Javed, the Vice President of Yes, thanked the federation for the support and informed the press that the registration of players had already started.
In 2016, the Pakistan Women's National Baseball Team made their debut in the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup, in Gijang, Korea.
