Korea's 18U Team vows to bring title home

SEOUL - The Korean 18U National Team on Tuesday vowed to bring home the winner's trophy from the upcoming 18U Baseball World Cup in Taichung.

Korea is set to compete at the 18U Baseball World Cup from Aug. 30-Sept. 8 in Taichung, Taiwan. The team left for the East Asian island on Wednesday.

The country is paired with Australia, Colombia, Cuba, Italy and the United States in Pool B. Pool A teams are Canada, the Czech Republic, Japan, Mexico, Chinese Taipei and Venezuela. Korea's opening game will be against Italy at half past noon in Chinese Taipei, or 1:30 p.m. Korean time, on Friday.

"Our team will be led by strong pitching and bold base running," said Jeong Yoon-jin, the national team manager. "We will try to get past powerhouses such as the U.S. and Cuba to win the championship."
