RE ESTABLISHING WOMEN’S BASEBALL

Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball Association

Sri Lanka Amateur Baseball / Softball Association is re establishing women’s Baseball in the country with a day’s coaching camp on this  Wednesday the 30th October.

It’s good news to all the sports loving girls and ladies in the country that Baseball will be re established in Sri Lanka. First batch to wear the gloves would be the ladies from Defense services and Sri Lanka Police.

This coaching camp will be held at the Welisara Navy CampGround from 9.00 am onwards and the  camp will be conducted by experienced Sri Lankan Baseball Coaches throughout the day.

SLABSA who believes in equalant opportunities for all inBaseball will establish women’s baseball teams including schools in time to come. Introducing camp is the first initiative and there will be several programs aiming at the ultimate objective of letting women also enjoy this wonderful sport like the men. Sri Lanka, who is currently fielding strong men’s Baseball teams for regional tournaments, will undoubtedly field strong women’s baseball teams as well.

We had ladies playing baseball in mid eighties but couldn’t continue. This time, women’s baseball is here to stay forever. Who knowsThey might beat men’s talent in the game in time to come. This initiative, an idea of Kalinga Indatissa, President of the Sri Lanka Baseball Association will be appreciated by allsports loving Sri Lankans. Opening ceremony which will be at 9.00 am will be graced by the Commander of the Sri LankaNavy and inspired by the participation of Olympic Medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe and Cricket Hero Arjuna Ranathunga.
