Japan Claims 40th Edition of the USA-Japan International Collegiate Baseball Series with Walk-Off Win in 10th

SHIZUOKA, Japan July 17, 2016 - In a dramatic conclusion to an extremely hard-fought and well-played series, a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning lifted Japan to a 5-4 win and a series victory over the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team at Kusanagi Stadium on Sunday.  The contest was the fourth game of the 40th USA-Japan International Collegiate Series to be decided by a single run with Team USA falling in three of those.

Following the series, Captain Yuya Yanagi (Meiji) was awarded MVP, Evan Skoug (TCU) was presented with the "Fighting Spirit" award for his style of play and hustle and Jake Burger (Missouri State) earned batting title honors after hitting .353 (6-for-17) with three doubles over the course of the five-game set.

Team USA traveled first to Taiwan for a five-game set against Chinese Taipei, July 5-9.  From there, the Red, White and Blue flew to Japan for a five-game series. To close out its summer tour, Team USA will then make the trek to Cuba for another five-game series. Those games are scheduled to take place in Ciego de Avila (July 23-24), Havana (July 25) and Pinar del Rio (July 26-27).
