NISHINOMIYA, Hyogo -- Osaka Toin clinched the 90th National High School Baseball Invitational Tournament, commonly known as "Senbatsu," by defeating Chiben Wakayama 5-2 in the final at Hanshin Koshien Stadium here on April 4.
Osaka Toin, of Osaka Prefecture, won the event for the second straight year and third time overall. In repeating its success from last year, the team became one of only three schools ever to win consecutive tournaments, following PL Gakuen of Osaka which triumphed in 1981 and 1982. The victory marked the 11th time that a team from Osaka has won the competition -- a record for a prefecture.
Chiben Wakayama representing Wakayama Prefecture lost only three official games in 2017 -- all against powerhouse Osaka Toin
