8 club teams from Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States.

INCHEON, South Korea – A new international baseball event dedicated entirely to the promotion of women athletes, the LG Cup International Women’s Baseball Tournament 2014, opened today.

In a partnership between LG Electronics (LG), WBSC’s baseball division – the IBAF -- and the Women’s Baseball Association of Korea (WBAK), the inaugural LG Cup 2014 is being held from 22-25 August at LG Champions Park, a state-of-the-art sports complex in Icheon, South Korea that features two playing venues and an indoor baseball training facility.

LG’s backing of the event follows the recent IBAF announcement that South Korea has been awarded the hosting rights of the 2016 Women’s Baseball World Cup.

The LG Cup 2014 will feature eight club teams from seven nations, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and the United States. The women’s baseball clubs will compete in sixteen matches over five days.

Days following the conclusion of the LG Cup, the eight-nation ENEOS Presents VI Women’s Baseball World Cup will begin on the 1st of September in Miyazaki, Japan.
