18th December 2021, Thimphu, Bhutan: The Bhutan Baseball and Softball Association (BBSA) — in collaboration with its league sponsor, Nangyi Aum Restaurant — celebrated the Opening Day of its inaugural Under 15 Bhutan Amateur Baseball League (BABL) in Thimphu today.
The BABL currently consists of one division, the Thimphu Amateur Baseball Division (TABD), with 5 schools, 90 student-athletes, 15 officials and volunteers. Games will be hosted at Changangkha Middle Secondary School and Dechencholing Higher Secondary School, abiding by COVID protocol.
The league consists of a regular season and playoffs, totaling 3 months and all the games are played during weekends with an official game being 7 innings in length.
The participating schools are:
1. Changangkha Middle Secondary School
2. Dechencholing Higher secondary school
3. Thimphu Primary School
4. Druk School
5. Taba Middle Secondary School
The league’s objective is to develop and prepare young players aged 15 and under for dzongkhag clubs and senior leagues whilst promoting the health and social benefits of playing baseball and softball in Bhutan.
