BFA mourns the passing of Edwin Zerpa, ex-president of the Venezuelan Baseball Federation

On May 31st ex-president of the Venezuelan Baseball Federation (FVB) Edwin Zerpa Pizorno passed away in the Domingo Luciani hospital at the age of 77. Edwin Zerpa leads the Venezuelan federation for two terms (2005~2017) and was one of the founders and President of the Confederación Panamericana de Béisbol (COPABE). During his tenure as President of the Venezuelan Federation, Edwin has brought Venezuelan baseball into the top tenth-ranked baseball countries in the WBSC World Rankings.

 

Upon receipt of this sad news “It is a sad moment for international baseball, as we have lost a pioneer, true leader and a long time friend of our sport” said Tom Peng President of Baseball Federation of Asia whom has known Edwin for more than two decades. “Aside from being my long time friend, the one thing that Edwin did that has earned my utmost respect was the fact that he did everything possible to ensure that the Venezuelan national team participates in all the international tournaments that was qualified to participate despite the economical difficulties faced in his country” said Chris Day, Director of the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association.
