It’s just one month to go until the II IBAF 12U Baseball World Cup in Taipei City gets underway. 16 teams will compete in the tournament from July 18 to 28, 2013.
As at the successful 2011 event all games will be played at Tien-Mou Stadium, Shing-Sheng Stadium and Youth Park, all fitted to accommodate the 12U category.
Preparations for the II IBAF 12U Baseball World Cup are in the final stages. The teams are scheduled to arrive in Taipei City on July 16, 2013. The opening ceremony with all 16 teams is set for July 18 at 6pm for Tien-Mou Stadium.
Team USA, which makes its debut at the IBAF 12U Baseball World Cup, is one of the first teams to announce the roster for the tournament. A series of 11 identification events between March and June in the United States helped to select the 18 players, which are supposed to compete for the title.
Chinese Taipei won the 2011 IBAF 12U Baseball World Cup, defeating Cuba in a thrilling Gold Medal Game. They will send the players of the Taichung City team into the second edition to defend the title. The squad won the national 12U championship undefeated over Kaohsiung City during the finals at Youth Park in May.
Teams at the II IBAF 12U Baseball World Cup are split into two groups. Chinese Taipei will face Mexico, Japan, Italy, Colombia, Czech Republic, India and Philippines in Group A. The US will square off with Venezuela, Brazil, Korea, Panama, Hong Kong, Russia and Pakistan in Group B.
The first game day on July 18 is highlighted by matchups between USA and Panama, Chinese Taipei and Colombia, as well as Korea and Brazil. Several games of the first and final rounds will be broadcasted live. Full schedule.
The delegation of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) is headed by President Riccardo Fraccari and Executive Director Michael Schmidt. Technical Director of the II IBAF 12U Baseball World Cup will be Guiseppe Guilizzoni, Umpire Director Marco Screti (ITA) and Scoring Director Anna Maria Paini.
