As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to grow and affect all around Asia and soar in numbers and international travel restrictions are still in place. BFA has no choice but to take the hard and painful decision to cancel the XV BFA West Asia Cup (WAC) originally to be hosted in Karaj, Iran in September. This decision was not taken lightly, but considering the safety of players, coaches and all participants of the event. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this unfortunate circumstance and your comprehension is much appreciated.
The WAC was a qualifier event for the 2021 XXX BFA Asian Championship be held in December. According to the discussion of the 2021 BFA’s first ECM, BFA has decided to implement the final standings of the last edition of the 2019 BFA WAC event, which was hosted in Sri Lanka. In this case, being the final standing of the [2019 XIV BFA West Asia Cup], there are a total of two teams assigned for the Asian Championship, so, the following two teams are qualified for the 2021 XXX BFA Asian Championship:
Champion: Sri Lanka
Runner-up: Pakistan
Another two teams, from East Asian countries, are assigned to Asian Championship; however, the 2020 XIV East Asia Cup was canceled because of COVID-19 and no hosting country. BFA has made the same decision as WAC, we implement the final standings of the [2018 XIII BFA East Asia Cup]. Therefore, the following two teams are:
Champion: Philippines
Runner-up: Thailand
Last, although the WAC is not hosted, we would like to express our deep appreciation to the Iran Baseball & Softball Association, which has greatly devoted hosting this West Asia Cup.
