Saturday Sep 09, 2017

KARACHI: Pakistan may not have been able to win any match in the inaugural edition of the BFA Women's Baseball Asian Cup, but star player Iram Khalid managed to prove her mettle in the tournament.

Khalid, 25, was inducted in the all-stars team at the conclusion of the Baseball Federation of Asia's (BFA) sports event held in Hong Kong. She is the only Pakistani player to receive such a recognition in the six-team tournament.

Pakistan's was one of the teams alongside those from India, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and Hong Kong, but they were unable to emerge victorious in any of the tournament's matches.

However, Khalid's noteworthy performance in the Baseball Asian Cup earned her a place in the all-star team, comprising the event's best performers.

The Pakistani sportswoman has been included in “Catcher” category for the BFA tournament's all-star team.

In this regard, Khalid — who expressed pleasure at having achieved this landmark recognition — said Pakistan was playing against the best teams of the world.

“We were unable to win a match as team, but I am happy to be recognised and inducted in all-stars team. I dedicate this achievement to the nation,” she said.
