Message from President of Baseball Federation of Japan on Cancellations and Postponements of Events

BFJ President YAMANAKA Masatake issued the following statement on April 3rd, 2020.

Dear BFJ Family,

Normally, this is the time to enjoy a fresh start of baseball season.  Due to the rapid acceleration of the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the whole world is being put in abnormal circumstances to wrestle with the damages.

In Japan, national high schools’ invitational tournament, professional baseballs and the most other baseball games and eventswere cancelled or postponed. We receive notice of changes of international schedule from World Baseball Softball Confederation and Baseball Federation of Asia every day.

What should we do now?

First and foremost, the containment of the spread of COVID-19 is the shortest way to resume our activities.

The entire baseball family needs to stand together.  Accordingly, I urge all of you to refrain from any group activities.

Baseball will show its social value when we are mentally and physically sound.  Until such time as baseball returns to its everyday life, let’s do our best what we can by standing together.

YAMANAKA Masatake
