The 46th Grand Phoenix Baseball Championship of Korean High Schools kicks off on Aug. 15

Hankook Ilbo, the sister newspaper of The Korea Times, is partnering with the Korea Baseball Softball Association (KBSA) to host the 46th Grand Phoenix Baseball Championship that starts on Aug. 15 at Mokdong Baseball Stadium in Seoul.

The Grand Phoenix Baseball Championship is the only high school baseball tournament in Korea that does not have preliminary rounds. Seventy-six teams are scheduled to play in this year's tournament and prominent games will be broadcast on IB Sports channel. The live-streaming web casts can be accessed through the official KBSA website or on YouTube. One can also watch game replays on the Naver Sports channel.

The opening game on Aug. 15 will feature a contest between Jinyoung High School and Gaesung High School, and a series of games will follow.

This year the Hankook Ilbo is taking steps to incorporate fun elements so fans can enjoy the opening day. Diverse activities, including a photo session with the 2018 Miss Korea and cheering led by LG Twins' cheerleading squad, will take place at the stadium.

Attendees will be eligible for a 55-inch television and running shoes, among other prizes, with winners selected via a lucky draw after the fifth round. A lucky draw will also be held at other games.

In addition, the Hankook Ilbo's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/hankookilboevent) will host promotional events to offer gifts to baseball fans.
