The Army team wins National Baseball Championship in Pakistan

12/03/2018 Pakistan Army won the National Baseball Championship. They beat, 8-6, in the final Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), the defending champions.
It was the twenty third edition of the tournament, the first named after Khawar Shah, the founder of the Pakistan Federation (PFB).

Arsalan Jamshaid, Faqir Hussain and Nazir Ahmed hit a home run each for Pakistan Army. Zakir Afridi provided most of the power for WAPDA, since he connected for 2 more home runs.

The losing team received the most important individual award. WAPDA pitcher Muhammad Usman was named Man of the Tournament.

Pakistan Police defeated Punjab, 10-0, in the bronze medal game and finished third. Pitcher Tariq Nadeem threw a complete game shut out and was named Man of the Match.

Lieutenant General Syed Arif Assan, President of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) was the main guest during the closing ceremony.  “Today’s match showed the improvement and development of baseball in Pakistan. I appreciated the way both teams played”.

Syed Fakhar Ali Shah, President of PFB, informed the media that Pakistan will participate in the Asian Games 2018 and that PFB will open Camp at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad.
