Taiwan scheduled to stage Baseball Federation of Asia youth events in March and April

New windows for two age-group Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) tournaments postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic have been confirmed.

Both the Under-18 Asian Baseball Championship and Under-12 Asian Baseball Championship were delayed until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic, and both are qualification events for World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) World Cups. 

The Under-12 Asian Baseball Championship is now set to be played in March, with the Under-18 Asian Baseball Championship scheduled for the following month.

Both will remain in Taiwan, with Tainan the host for the under-12 competition and Kaohsiung due to witness the under-18 contest.

Florida is set to host the 2021 Under-18 Baseball World Cup, which the Under-18 Asian Baseball Championship is a qualifier for, in September.

The top three teams will secure places at the World Cup.

Host nation Chinese Taipei, Japan, South Korea, China, Hong Kong, Pakistan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka are due to contest the Under-18 Asian Baseball Championship.

 

Tainan is due to be the host of the 2021 Under-12 Baseball World Cup as well as the Asian qualifying event, although dates for the World Cup have not yet been announced.

Starting from 2019, five editions of the tournament are scheduled to be played in Tainan.

Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, China, Pakistan, and the Philippines are due to contest the Under-12 Asian Baseball Championship, to be played at the sport's first venue designed for players 12 and under - Tainan Asia Pacific Stadiums.

WBSC President Riccardo Fraccari and executive director Michael Schmidt recently met with the BFA Executive Board to discuss the re-shaped international calendar.

South Korea are the reigning under-18 world champions, with Chinese Taipei currently champions at under-12 level.
