WBSC aims to further grow baseball, softball in China

WBSC was invited to Beijing, China, to attend Host City Asia, where international event owners meet Asia destinations and investors. Secretary General Beng Choo Low spoke on 11 April about Engaging new audiences and urban youth.

“I explained that WBSC is in a unique position. Our competition express true gender balance and I highlighted our effort to promote and develop women’s baseball and men’s softball” said Beng Choo Low.

During WBSC Session, Beng Choo Low had also a chance to illustrate how new formats of WBSC competitions are proving most popular with young audiences and how WBSC is close to urban culture and trends thanks to Baseball5, a new discipline that is growing at a rapid pace.

The panel of speakers, moderated by Miss Yang Ge, Senior Content Developer, FTCHinese.com, also included: Mr Kelvin Fang, Senior Media & Marketing Manager, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) China; Mr Paul Spiller, President of Oceania, World Chess Federation; Mr Hao Li, Founder and X Games China Chief Produces, REnextop.

Host City is a Cavendish Group brand. It was first published in 2003 for the Beijing Olympics, while the inaugural Conference took place in London in 2014. Cavendish Group is a business publisher and meeting/events organizer with special focus on the markets of emerging economies such as Brasil, Russia, India and China (or BRICS).

Beng Choo Low had also a chance to meet with Chinese Baseball President Mr Chen Xu and Chinese Softball President Mr Yang Xu to discuss the overall development of Baseball, Softball and Baseball5 in China.

China is ready to host the Asia-Oceania Softball Olympic Qualifier from 24 to 28 September in Shangai and the Women’s Softball U-18 Asia Cup from 4 to 10 November in Qianxinan, Guizhou.

The meeting was also about the formal steps to be taken for the inclusion of baseball-softball in the Asian Games 2022, to be hosted by the city of Hangzhou
